a feeling!
an emotion!
it’s the feeling that I get which makes me wanna tap my feet and move.
Blues can either make you…forget about all your pains ..
or make them so sharp in your mind that it cuts ya like a knife!
Blues can make you…cry uncontrollably…
or make you laugh hysterically, and no one knows what ya laughing at!
Blues is about just raw, pure emotion and nobody can…create, manufacture or fake it!
if you know what I’m talking about, than I know damn well you got the blues!
Blues will make you think about the years gone past and ponder bout…
things you wanted to do, that you ain’t got a chance to do yet.
things you know you’ll never, ever get a chance to do.
things that you never even thought about wanting to do before, that you want to do now!
I ain’t one to pretend that I know everything about the blues, cuz at my age I’m just a baby!
But I know Blues is about…
life experiences…
having your downfalls…
having your triumphs…
being able to fall flat on your face, pull yo’ butt back up, dust your clothes off and keep walking!
now I don’t know what the Blues is to you,
but that’s damn sho’ what I feel when I hear the Blues.
When I hear the Blues, I hear my ancestors…
growing rice…
picking cotton…
building railroads…
dancing…
laughing…
fighting…
and yeah loving!
Oh I hear it all.
So when I hear that music that penetrates and pierces thru my soul…
it ain’t about every chord and evey note being perfect…
what I actually get out of it is just the opposite!
When I hear the…
bent chords…
wayward notes…
the slightly off pitch key of the vocals…
it tells me that persons feeling something!
that’s its not just a 1-2-3,... 1-2-3,... 1-2-3-4…
that’s it’s a feeling that…
has taken over them
they want to express
they want to get out and let others know about!
That’s what the blues is to me.
Now my mama used to tell me…
that one day I was gonna close my eyes and start to move or dance around and I was gonna run into something, LOL!
Well 20+ years later and it ain’t happened yet!
and it ain’t happened because…
when that music hits me and I get that feeling…
I don’t need to have my eyes open…
I don’t need to see where I’m going…
trust me that music will guide me, it’s been guiding me all this time and I don’t think its gonna let me down now!
So when I close my eyes and it seems like I’m in my own world, don’t take it to mean that I don’t acknowledge your presence or know you’re there, just…
